Restios
in Plants
I planted a restio in my garden several years ago and it has done very well. It is now a big clump and looks well so I decided in the Spring to propagate from it for my daughter whose restio had died.
I removed some of the stems and gave them to her but they have died so I am planning to repeat the exercise but keep the offcuts until they are growing by themselves.
Does anyone have any tips for successfully propagating restios? I have done a quick check on Google but there is not much info on taking cuttings etc. from them. It seems lack of water could have been why the first attempt failed so was planning to keep them, in a container, really damp until established.

I spoke to someone at Kienan Plants who to begin with, seemed rather hesitant about giving me advice. However, eventually, I gleaned the following info.
1. Restios have male and female plants so both are needed for pollination.
2. They do not like root disturbance.
3. They need smoke nd specialized conditions to propagate from seed.
Was I being discouraged in the hopes of a sale being made? It was suggested, rather reluctantly, that sometimes restios could be increased by division. They are obviously not an easy plant to grow from seed but as I want to reduce my existing clump I am going to have a go at potting up some of the roots to see if any will grow. I will lift some now to grow on under cover and some in the Spring.
I cannot resist a challenge.
Maybe they thought that you were setting up a rival business
Good luck, l hope it works !
