  • @young codger tried to took for shallots in many garden/nurseries. Nothing. Shall have to buy more next year and not pickle so many so keep some back!
My original purchase was when I saw some reduced in Tescos on the produce section. I'm pleased that I planted them instead of eating them. They have done very well. Try the local supermarkets-Morrisons, Tesco, Asda etc. You may still find some. You don't need many, I began with about 9.
  • @scroggin Thank you will keep looking out for them.

I planted some from sets 2 years ago and from saved shallots last autumn. They weren't as prolific this year but happy to have something from nothing. So will plant again early October.
  • @bertrand-mabel, in case you're still looking for shallots they're in stock at my local nurseries in Kent. Bought shallots and onion sets today for planting at the end of the month.
  • @scroggin Have been looking but no joy yet. Could I use shallots bought in the veg section of a supermarket?
  • @bertrand-mabel, I've no experience of growing from supermarket shallots, but others on here have saved their own shallots to use as sets, so I can't see why not.

@bertrand-mabel, I tend to use Taylor's for my onion and shallots sets, if you look on their website they list where their stockists are.
  • @scroggin Thank you, very useful information.
