House plant ID

Red mapleRed maple Posts: 1,138
Can any of you knowledgable folk identify this trailing houseplant for me. It was given as a gift, but there’s no label on it. I want to be sure to put it in the right position and water/feed appropriately. Thank you.

The stems have a reddish/pinkish hue and the underside of some of the leaves are the same, giving a slightly striped effect.

Looks like my Tradescantia or a related species.

Thank you both of you for your ID of the plant. I can look up how to care for it now.

so I need to keep it in trim, then, to control it’s spread?

Keep it on a well lit windowsill (but not in fierce sunshine) and it will grow bushier rather than quite so  straggly and its leaf colour will be better.

When you do need to trim it back pop the pieces you cut off into a jar of water for a few weeks and they’ll sprout roots … pot them up (3 to a pot) and you’ve a new plant. 😊
