Wind absorbing shrub for "splat spot"

I call this my "splat spot", the wind seems to get concentrated into this one area and flattens whatever is at the back of the bed. I think it might help to put some kind of stiff, resilient, unyielding shrub in this spot, something not too big or at least clippable, and it doesn't have to be highly ornamental. Tidy will do. It would be a bonus if it's available at a large size because I'll probably want to put in a big specimen that will stand up to the wind straight away. Any ideas gratefully received!

I do have some big Hydrangea "Limelight" and a big Callicarpa in pots, but these seem to whip around in the wind quite a lot, which isn't that helpful.

lonicera nitida. I have a couple of them in my swirly spots providing shelter for things like pittosporum and hebes that don't tolerate the cold north-westerlies that we get. Grows fast, grows big but easy to clip and keep looking tidy. The yellow one is very cheery in winter and there's a nice variegated form, too

I'd recommend Griselinia littoralis for that spot, it's perfect for a windy situation.  The colour and leaf shape go well with grasses too, which I know you also grow.  I've used it as hedging and as individual shrubs grown as columns to block unwanted views.  If you don't get severe winters where you are it should provide a reliable windbreak and backdrop for you.  I'd go for the green version, the variegated version is good too but much slower growing.

Cheers for these suggestions, food for thought.
