AMARYLLIS IN FLOWER

Has anyone had an amaryllis in flower in august?, I put mine under the bench in the greenhouse after flowering in spring, I was looking for a pot under the bench the other day and there it is with three lovely buds which are now in flower. Would be grateful for any feed back.

Must be the weather .It’s been very bright for ages so that may be why .Lucky you

I often get them flowering in summer, I wonder if that is the natural time and they are forced to flower at Christmas and then revert.

IIRC in the wild they flower late spring /early summer.
As you say, the ones we buy are ‘prepared’ and ‘forced’  like early hyacinths are.

Yes that’s what I was driving at. I’m afraid I don’t express myself very well .They are brought into the light at Christmas, having been kept dark for weeks and weeks .It’s being in the light that helps them flower ,when we’re used to seeing them at the darkest time of the year .Oh dear that isn’t clear either ……….I agree with you guys

I presumed, given the context, that the OP was referring to the sort of amaryllis we grow for indoor colour around New Year onwards … so Hippeastrum 😊

And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)
