Is our newly planted Rowan Tree dying?

sara021sara021 Posts: 3
Our newly planted Rowan tree seems to be dying, it has a mixture of mostly brown leaves and some green but the number of brown seem to be growing. I've also noticed the bark on two of the branches has split. The tree was planted about 8 weeks ago before we moved into our new house, it was probably neglected and not watered during the recent hot weather, we got keys last week and have been watering it every day. Can we rescue it? Any advice greatly welcomed!

Oh dear that doesn't look good.
Sorbus are known to be prone to fire blight.
We had it in Wales and had to remove our young Sorbus Joseph Rock.
I may be wrong but I believe this is what your young tree has.

Thanks Silver Surfer, I didn't know anything about fire blight but reading about it now I think you might be right. Poor tree!

We’ve been in our home 30+ years our builders planted two rowan trees which survived and we love them. Perhaps it’s worth approaching the builder to ask for a replacement as yours is dead…nothing to lose.
Its such a shame when a new plant dies isn’t it.

    Fireblight affects Rosaceae.

    More info here
    https://www.rhs.org.uk/disease/fireblight

Quote...."Fireblight chiefly affects those members of the Rosaceae family producing a type of fruit known as a pome fruit: apples, pears and related ornamentals including Cotoneaster, Sorbus, Crataegus (hawthorn), Photinia (syn. Stransvaesia) and Pyracantha."

Out of my depth here...I am not sure it is a good idea to replant with any tree from this group.
    Maybe others can offer help.
