    Are you talking about hardy Geraniums or the tender Pelargoniums?

    I'm not really sure.  it doesn't say on the label just 'hanging potted'.  They were bought from B & Q. to hang on the fence.

    Load a photo so we can see for ourselves.

    Hardy geraniums are native to Europe and not suited to hanging baskets.   Tender pelargoniums are native to South Africa and come in trailing/tumblig forms as well as upright.   

    The confusion over the names comes because pelargoniums have a similar seed structure to native geraniums which are also known as cranesbills because of those seed pods.

    Hardy geraniums look like this for example. If it's not these, a photo might help just to confirm. Judging by your description though, my money's still on a type of pelargonium  :)
