When is the best time to lift and relocate Aruncus

I have a couple of large Aruncus, about 5 years old that I want to relocate to another border. When is the best time to do this to minimise shock to the plants please.

I have done this both in Spring and autumn and had no trouble at all. They seem to be pretty indestructible,  in fact, it's a tough job to divide clumps. However, I wouldn't attempt it just now if you are living in a desert like me...

Thank you, I will wait until the ground is softer. Might break my spade otherwise !

I agree with @Posy wait for now they are tough to divide. I wouldn't divide into too smaller clumps, even if you can, they will establish quicker. You may be watering them for some time  if you split them in autumn they may need watering next year too.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
