eryngium lost colour

I bought this eryngium Big Blue, I have read it keeps it's colour and likes the sun, I did put it in an area I had enriched the soil a bit and mulched with bark, there has of course been a bit of dry weather but I was surprised and disappointed by the loss of colour. Have I done anything wrong?

I think the flowers have just faded with the sun. I grow both white and blue forms and they seem to have crossed over time. The bottom of the plant looks very healthy. They love heat which they probably get from your wall. Also poor soil so treat them mean.

Mine look similar to yours too. They usually last longer, but I guess the heat has made them keel over sooner this year.
Most drop seed, so you should see some seedlings around next Spring. I pot them up then plant them out where I want them when they're big enough

  • Thanks a lot, I hope they do give me seedlings I can try them in different locations.

Look out for small glossy round leaves in the spring.
I lift and pot them up and when they're big enough plant them out

I grew some eryngium planum from seed 4 years ago and they've been fine every year till this latest heatwave earlier in August.   The lower foliage is still OK but the stems and flowers have been fried to a crisp.
