Indoor Plant has had a baby!

CatDouchCatDouch Posts: 488
One of my houseplants (sorry I don’t know the name of it) has grown a long tentacle and it looks like a baby plant on the end but I’m not sure how to grow the baby.  I’ve got a few spider plants that grow like mad and I just cut the baby off, shove it in a pot with some compost and they always grow, I’m inundated with them and so are my friends who I force them onto 😂 But this plant is probably not as tough and may need a different approach? Are there any houseplant experts out there who can point me in the right direction?

  • An Aloe of some kind ?  Detach the baby and do the same as your Spider plants but in a grittier soil ?  I'm pretty sure @wild edges will know tho and be able to advise you correctly.

I think I'd probably try pegging it down into a small pot of compost and letting it grow roots before severing it from the parent.

I had one of these I think mine is a Hawthornia looks very similar. I detached mine and potted it into gritty compost it did fine…love getting something for nothing.

Thanks for all your kind and helpful comments ☺️ @philippasmith2 hopefully @wild edges will see this post and give the definitive answer! Yes I agree @Bilje getting a free plant is always great isn’t it. Thanks for the nice comment about our bath @Hostafan1 when we viewed this house prior to buying it, it was the bathroom that did it for me 😂
