Solidago sprouting new growth

Hello,

I've just bought several Solidago plants. They've almost gone over now but have also started sprouting new shoots from the bottom. My question is, will this new growth survive the winter and form next year's stems or will it die off and resprout in spring? Just curious really.

@Robert West This is next years growth, other perennials do the same Helenium is another. OK to cut off the the old growth if you want too as they are very tough. If you like them S Fireworks has lovely leaves and is shade tolerant.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • @GardenerSuze thanks. I'll chop off the old stems when I plant them out next month.
