Banana plant

I have been given a banana plant that stands about 4ft tall but is still in quite a small pot. I live in Cornwall what in my best action plan to ensure it survives. I have a small greenhouse and a reasonably sheltered garden facing south west.

do you know which variety it is?
    Devon.
  • Looks like a Musa Basjoo.
  • I would pot it on into a bigger container now. there is still time for it to establish itself Put it into a saucer on feet or bricks. You can move it into the greenhouse for the worst of the cold wet weather or leave it outside in a sheltered corner if you have one. If you leave it outside, wrap the pot in bubble wrap during frosty spells and protect the plant crown with straw.
I am in Cornwall, have a dwarf banana which lives in a hot S/S.W facing corner. I have never moved mine under cover but do wrap the pot and tip it to face the wall during cold spells. Mine eventually flowered, then the mother plant died and it produced several shoots around the base, some of which I gave to my son in law who religiously puts his in his greenhouse each winter because they live in a frost pocket.
