Old sycamore is losing tree losing leaves in August

Why is an old sycamore suddenly getting brown leaves and shedding them.  Presumably it is the drought?  Is this assumption right?

    Yes it's happening nearly everywhere there's drought conditions, woodland parks,  even managed gardens, young trees struggling even more but many mature ones suffering too.
