Because of the hot weather,  I'm just catching up with previous programmes.   Just watched an episode in which Adam planted something in a shady area of his garden.   Despite winding it back and re-watching it again and again,  we have no idea what he said the plant was.   Why not display on the screen the botanical name if the object of the programme is to help gardeners who might be interested.
In general,  Gardeners World is poor help to budding gardeners trying to build an interesting garden in a plot not conducive to growing stuff.
The majority of gardeners don't grow anything to eat,  nor have an estate worthy of Calamity's vision.   Just need to know what to grow where and in what type of soil.
I'm sick and tired of the awful videos of awful gardens of people who should do more research in what they are doing,  and the BBC diversity nonsense of including anyone of race or disability whether they have anything useful to contribute to gardening knowledge.
Finally,  Monty Don,  as likeable as he is,  has the most uninspiring garden going.  The days of Thrower,  Smith, & Titmarsh are long gone in giving serious detailed technique to those of us desparate for knowledge.

Just in case Mr Tit(ch)marsh might not have mentioned it, I should start with 'dig plot' and follow that with 'remove weeds'.  I think most will consider that 'serious detailed technique'?

Certainly remove weeds but digging is now known to destroy soil micro organisms and structure so forking is better if needed but mulching and planting thru that is far better.
Have to agree that GW has little to help beginners understand their plots and the needs of plants and thus what is worth trying.  Beechgrove is better in that respect but also, I fear, losing its way.

I must say that as a first time poster you have been very controversial. We have a lot of posts on the forum about Gardener's world and lots of opinions have been viewed. Some like the format, some do not.  It might be worth your while searching for some of those threads as most of your comments have been touched upon already.  Despite your abrasive post can I say welcome to the Forum.

I agree with this...it would be most helpful.

I don't watch the programme but wonder, do the subtitles include plant names? Might be worth checking.

Agree about the plant names being displayed, but the rest of your missive, best ignored.

Try watching again with the sub-titles switched on?  Doesn't always work, but it can be a help.

If you have been watching GW since the days of Percy Thrower I would expect you would have picked up an awful lot of serious detailed technique by now.

I blame the weather ... it's making curmudgeons of many  ;)
