Ground cover question.

I intend underplanting a shady area to help suppress weeds. I've ordered Bugle (Ajuga Reptans) and Sweet Woodruff (Asperula oderata).
If i plant them together, will one overwhelm the other, or should i plant them in different areas?
I think i know the answer, but it would be good to hear from others that have planted them.

  • We have both and the sweet woodruff has spread into other areas but we don't mind. They grow well together but the bugle can take over and so has to be checked now and then. The insects love both plants.

I thought the taller Woodruff might swamp the Bugle, so good to hear that isn't the case. I'll mix them as i plant them then. Thanks.

Our Sweet Woodruff has spread over quite a large area since the tree was pollarded and more light is reaching that corner. We don’t have much else in that corner, but it’s certainly not allowing any weeds to take hold.

As a bonus, a German friend makes the most wonderful drink from it
