Should a cut phlox and astrantia back hard now?

Hello everyone should I cut some of these perennials back hard now as their heads are drying up and suffering really in the drought. I’m not wanting to make the plant flower again just trying to de-stress it in some way. Is this a good idea or just leave the plant alone and hope for the best 🙏🏻 Many thanks x

I've been doing just that for the last three-weeks to all perennials that are suffering in this infernal heat  ; purely to conserve what little moisture is still in the root systems .
They will all regenerate next year .
