Pruning Acer Japonicum

PlantmindedPlantminded Posts: 3,580
My neighbour has asked me to prune my Acer Japonicum which has started to overhang his garage.  I know it's in RHS pruning group 1 which advises to prune in "Late winter or early spring (late summer or early autumn for plants that bleed)".  As it can bleed, I'm wondering if it's OK to do this now or should I wait a while?  I'm only planning on doing some very light pruning, no large branches, as I don't want to spoil the shape of the tree.  I'd appreciate any advice please.  Thank you.

Normally November to march. I wouldn't prune it now
Are you on good terms with the neighbours, you could mention this to them,or are they likely to say it's hanging over their Garden,so they are going to cut it back anyway, which of course, they are entitled to do.

Thank you very much for your reply @Nanny Beach.   I'll exercise my diplomacy skills and delay until November! (He's often seeking my gardening advice so this will be some new knowledge for him!)
