Do you like spinach? That doesn’t seem to take up too much room in my patch, or need to much maintenance

I would recommend you try cucumber. Just 2 plants are enough to give you fresh cucumbers for at least 2 months. I grow them in builder's buckets.

And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

Glenjjones   You should be able to grow 24 runner bean plants in one square yard/metre of space, and onions grown through roofing felt can last a full year as per pic.
how do you get so many runner beans in such a small space. I usually grow around 8 plants in the same sort of area. I'm sure I'd struggle to get at the beans with all the foliage if I had them this tightly packed in?

also you reference a pic but there isn't one.

You can't plan for British weather! Last year August was cold and wet for many.
It's unlikely that next years weather will be like this and it depends which spinach too as there are many. I've grown a Beet Spinach this year as it's more resilient to weather extremes and has done really well.

Glenjjones  Circular pit a yard/metre diameter, a foot deep, lined with newsprint and filled with the soggiest compost you can find.  Pole in the middle.  Wheel of some sort on the top and sticks x 12 evenly spaced around it.  Two plants per stick.  Full spec at nickatipixnetdotcom if required.
