Query about monstera.

I have a monstera that is growing well. It’s about 70cm tall and I want to give it some support.

So, the question is in 2 parts:
1. If I push the post in near the plant base (which appears to be the norm) am I likely to damage the roots?
2. Seeing as the plant is growing towards the edge of the pot, would that be a better place to push in the support?

I have added photos to aid your opinions.

If your plant has been in the same pot for over a year or so, now may be a good time to repot your plant into a slightly larger pot so that you can include your support pole in the new compost without disturbing the roots.  If your plant has been repotted recently, place the pole at the outer edge of your pot where the roots will be younger and they will repair more easily.

To help control watering and drainage, it's better to grow your plant in a plastic post with drainage holes and then place that pot in an outer ceramic or decorative pot.  There's some good care and maintenance advice in this link: How to Grow a Huge Monstera Deliciosa - The Healthy Houseplant

  • Thanks for the reply. It has been recently repotted, so I’ll take your advice and stick the support in the side.

Thanks for your other advice too. It is in fact in a plastic pot with a built in drainage tray at the bottom. I like these pots, they attractive and do the job very well.

    Thanks again.
