tree identification

Retro1951Retro1951 Posts: 116
This is a tree next-door. It looks like a sort of plum, but it grows incredible long - horizontal - branches, has spikes on branches too, grows very tall...an takes my sunshine away...
Is it a 'proper' plum???? Thank you for your time.

Looks like Prunus cerasifera...common name Cherry plum.
However that does not have spikes or thorns.
Maybe need to see pic of these spikes.

Thank you for that, much appreciated. The tree has grown so tall in recent years. I remember the spikes when you could still get at them. I may have to use a ladder now....
    But thank you.

If it should happen to be a damson, treasure it!

I sure would, no definitely not a damson, sadly.

Prunus can be quite promiscuous … Shepherds Bullace can have spikes … maybe there’s been some cross-fertilisation…? Similar shaped fruits but Shepherds Bullace fruits are coloured more like a Victoria plum, with a light bloom.

Thank you for your time. Yes, I agree, the ones I found on the internet are of a different colour...
    I don't know.. I 'll keep looking.

Next spring please add clear pics to show the  back of flowers.
If it is Prunus cerasifera...common name Cherry plum, then behind the petals the sepals will be curled back...see my pics
