This is a tree next-door. It looks like a sort of plum, but it grows incredible long - horizontal - branches, has spikes on branches too, grows very tall...an takes my sunshine away... Is it a 'proper' plum???? Thank you for your time.
Thank you for that, much appreciated. The tree has grown so tall in recent years. I remember the spikes when you could still get at them. I may have to use a ladder now.... But thank you.
Prunus can be quite promiscuous … Shepherds Bullace can have spikes … maybe there’s been some cross-fertilisation…? Similar shaped fruits but Shepherds Bullace fruits are coloured more like a Victoria plum, with a light bloom.

Next spring please add clear pics to show the back of flowers. If it is Prunus cerasifera...common name Cherry plum, then behind the petals the sepals will be curled back...see my pics
