Hydrangea annabelle / lime rickey hedge

About a month ago hedge was looking good. As in first picture, gets some morning sunshine. Then basks in shade throughout the day. Gets about 1hour again in evening just before sundown.
The flowers have gone crispy and browning. Leaves all going crispy now. Looks terrible. Shall I cut it down to the ground. Neighbours hedge is just behind the fence, wondering if they taking all the nutrition from soil etc?
There mixed hedge has been there a long time

@neilsuzukisv2-Rq-DOX It is very short of water , I think you will see similiar up and down the country I would not cut it back. Just hope for rain. If there is a big hedge other side of fence yes it will be taking any water it can.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • As GardenerSuze says it’s because of lack of water.  Leave the flower heads on but remove the brown leaves.  Then give them a really good soaking, a watering can each, and keep doing this every day/couple of days.  You MAY see some new leaves forming.  The clue is in the name Hydrangea.  Hydro- Water.
