Seedling ID please

    I'm sticking with beech seedling! I can see the thin woody stem. 
    I wonder what the trunks are in the photo?

    We get lots of beech seedlings in our garden.  I'd say that's definitely beech.  

    I'd also guess it'll be quite firmly rooted... it looks as if it's growing from the shrub's rootball. If you water it well, and put on gardening gloves, you might be able to pull it out if you grasp it at ground level and pull hard.

    I was going to say hazel? We get lots in this garden.

    Neighbours have an enormous messy beech tree so makes sense, thank you. Just never had one sprout before in the garden. Pleasantly surprised!

    The trunks are for Photinia in a tree form

    Looks like beech to me too We have a beech hedge and the seedlings look just like that
