Plant damage after heatwave

Hi.  In the heatwave several items in garden have burnt.  The worst affected is my crabapple tree,  which has shrivelled brown burnt looking leaves, but also Japanese sea anemone and geraniums also affected.  Is it safe to cut it all back or just to leave it?  Thanks.

The leaves on my young magnolia stellata browned and shrivelled too.  I'm working on the theory that trees will not waste resources on leaves when under stress, to protect their trunks and roots.  Not so sure about perennials though - those that look a bit withered and droopy do revive with a good drink, although flowers and leaves may be lost.

    Hello @feasey1 :)

I think the crabapple tree will be fine as long as it's given plenty of water. It will probably start shedding leaves anyway if it is under stress, in order to conserve moisture.
Is it a fairly recent planting?

When you say geraniums, do you mean the bedding plant type (pelargoniums), or the hardy geraniums in the garden ? If it's the latter, you can shear them down to the ground and give them a good drink (10 litre watering can).

If you're able to post some photos that may help with advice.
