Albertine rose

I purchased an Albertine rose this year, planted it ,trellis up and doing nothing kept it fed watered and it’s just doing nothing. All the leaves are clusters of 7 so wasn’t sure if all bush is a sucker.
Any advise would be grateful

It does take a while to get going - then stand back! I'm not an expert but I don't think it's grafted.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

All roses need time to establish, they want to send down deep roots and this year has been probably the most difficult any of us have known, so don't give up on it yet. Cultivate patience instead :) You should see some growth and flowers in the spring.
Albertine is a lovely rose, we had one here growing against our back wall, in a tiny square of soil surrounded by huge paving flags we couldn't move. We had it for some years before it became too big for us to keep up with the watering.
  • Thank you all for your advise it's only I bought I different climbing rose and that has taken off straight away. So I expect to much from my Albertine perhaps. I will wait patiently for it to grow

Please show a photo of your rose, we cannot see what you've got there.  Thanks..

    ..thanks for the picture..

That appears to be 'Albertine' judging by the foliage and thorns.  Sometimes a different rose, with different foliage is sold incorrectly as Albertine..

Your rose looks under nourished, chlorotic and generally lacking in vigour.  It flowers on old wood, produced the previous season, so your rose will not flower until next year, but even so, it should be producing more shoots.
Please tell what feeding and watering regime you have been using, because it looks quite underfed, unmulched,  and underwatered to me..

ok, I know it's been a devilishly difficult summer for many of us, especially with new roses, so you'll have to wait and see.. it'll probably take off next Spring if nothing much else happens this year.  They usually send up vigorous shoots in late summer.
How long has it been planted, and was it from a container or did you plant it last winter bare rooted?... the Wharton's label on it suggests a potted rose.
...  container grown roses have been almost impossible to get established this summer, I have 2 looking much worse than yours..

If I am remembering correctly Albertine flowers similar to ramblers, it only has one flush, so growth this year with make the framework for next years flowers.  I have Alchemist which has a similar habit
  • Albertine is a Rambling Rose.  Rambling Roses often don’t flower in their first year after planting.  They tend to put all their energy into growth.  It, as someone has already said, is once flowering, usually between June and July.  Keep tying new growth to the trellis and next year it should flower.
