Red robin plant help

Hello all!
I am really struggling with caring for my red robin plant. I've had it a week, watered every day but the leaves at the lower half look like this. I did buy it like this from Homebase. I've never brought plants before and just assumed it would be ok once watered properly. I potted it too with some recommended soil.
Can someone advise if this is normal, will it fall off naturally or is there something I could do to help it.
With thanks

Yes it certainly would! ;) Hope this helps
  • I may be mistaken , but I  don't think that looks like a photinia red robin?
Kindness is always the right choice.

Hi @emmaleinepitter and welcome to the forum 😊
That looks more like an acer to me … maybe the labels got switched in B&Q … it does happen … some acers are better with a bit of shelter from the sun … it’s probably used to more shade than where it is now … those leaves look scorched … and possibly a bit dried by the wind too.

Many thanks for your reply. That makes sense then and where I have it positioned is in full sun 🤦 Shall move it today and hopefully it will ok.
  • @emmaleinepitter I had (another type of acer but) a new acer which didn't bear the sun in the first year. I moved it into complete shade and learned from the garden centre expert that this happens when they are new. Once established they tolerate more sun. My Acer had lost all leaves and the little branches looked like dried out, but new leaves came back once the tree was in the shade, and now being in the second year, it tolerates more sun without getting too much.
Yours will be fine once it's in the shade and gets plenty of water. Acers need ericaceous soil.

That's good to hear and reassuring that when I move it, it should be ok!  it's a shame I've got to move it as I love the bright red leaves glowing in the sun, it's beautiful, poor thing haha!
So pleased I asked on here and feel a little let down by the store. I brought a few shrubs/trees and being quite fussy about where I wanted them, purely for aesthetic reasons, means I've possibly half killed one and now have to rearrange the placement of everything.
  • @emmaleinepitter I learned in the recent 2 years that I shouldn't trust what labels say and also the descriptions on well-known websites are more for established plants rather than new plants.
Acers are quite robust, I'm full of hope that your one will make it.

Yes,it's an Acer, not a photinia. Depending on where you live, the SE,UK,is very hot and dry. My potted Acer's are under the trees in the shade now.
