Flies

I'm in South London and have so many flies in the garden all over the fuscias, is anyone else experiencing this? I've had a search and there's nothing nasty in the beds

Nothing to report here. Maybe something died in someone else's garden.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • I've noticed a lot in the past 2mths.  I think its the heat and food caddy bins.  Ours was seething with maggots last week to my horror!  I bought fly max from amazon.  It has 2, plastic containers, you mix a sachet with water and leave the containers in the sun.  OMG- it starting filling with flies within minutes.  Once full, you tip it out and dig into the soil.

I didn't expect it to collect SO many. I now wonder whether its a bad thing to kill so many?

  • It's what happens at this time of year -  all sorts of Flies good and bad. Making sure all waste bins are fitted with lids probably helps but if neighbouring properties don't do this, you are on a loser.  The amount of smelly rubbishas well as /dog/cat faeces laying about everywhere is another temptation.
I would imagine the product from Amazon is an attractant ( rather like slug pellets) which is why the flies zoom in on it.
As far as the OP is concerned, the flies are unlikely to have a damaging effect on the Fuchsia or any other plant so not a major concern :)
