Lavender

Hi!

I have 2 large lavender bushes that I'd like to move. I'm wondering when is the best time to do this? Also, will they transplant to a large pot? I would ideally like to wait until the flowers have gone over as the bees absolutely love them.

Thanks in advance.

You should wait till the flowers have gone ideally, they can look a bit sad after transplanting, but they pick up. Try to take a wide cut around the roots to disturb them as little as possible.
  • Thanks.

Will it be OK in a pot?

Yes it will, quite a big pot though.

In a pot your plants will require a bit more attention than in the ground.  I’d use a 50/50 blend of topsoil and horticultural grit to ensure the medium is free draining.  The plants will need more watering than in the ground, keeping the compost moist but not waterlogged.  Wait until the top couple of inches of compost dry out before watering and elevate your pots on pot feet or similar.  Your pots should also be in full sun if possible.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

  • Thanks everyone. I'll give it a go.
