Hole appeared 2'+ deep. Rat drain or other? Ps have Jack Russell if that counts!?

I have seen similar in my garden and as I live near a water culvert I also suspect rats. I'm doubtful about laying poison in case it's something more friendly.

I wonder if your Jack Russell would have found a rat long before you?
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Maybe pop some pieces of sausage down that hole .., rekindle Maggie’s interest?

Gawd above if I did that with Wee Uff Dove he have my garden turned over in half an hour. And the plants in a heap in the middle.
