Help with my willow

Please help me with my willow, I've taken dead leaves off my willow but how do I make it grow down rather than out

    I'm  not quite sure what you mean. It IS growing down but there will be some width as well. What variety is it? Where is it grafted?

    Is it the Kilmarnock willow...Salix caprea Kilmarnock?

    It does appear to be in a pot.
    If it is it will never be happy.
    I recommend that it is planted in the garden .

    It is a grafted tree and often the roots are not strong enough to support the very heavy top growth of leaves..they are inclined to lean/blow over.

    Near here the builder appears to have planted one of these trees in every garden.
