I were going to mention vernonia tempted to try one myself . Grasses will really come into there own soon I personally like the Miscanthus group
Echinops taplow blue should reach 4ft but Echinops white giant or tianschanicum will easy get to 6ft +
Veronicastrum - Acountium autumn flowering group aresendii is a common variety - persicaria polymorpha is a big beast - pervokskia blue spire - Helenium MBeauty as already mentioned mine gets to 4ft Indian summer is even taller - Shed load of Sanguisorba to pick from Canadensis packs a punch - quite a few japenese anemones can get unto 4ft - Datisca another plant I am thinking of trying - selinium wallichiana - some monarda possibly - Agastaches ? my blue fortune / black adder got to around 4ft sometimes bigger - Acatea for late flowering plants
some of these I've mentioned will prefer the soil amending / improving with organic matter.
@Perki If only I could grow some of the lovely plants you mention. I love P polymorpha and Actaea. I have grown them in the past. It makes me realise with each year my garden is getting drier in the summer and this year it has surpassed it's self.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
