They look like wild damsons to me, or possibly bullaces.

They will probably be too tart to eat raw, but would make a good pie (or jam, if there are enough...)

I have some of these coming over from my neighbour's garden. I too wondered if they were edible.
  • Great news.!! We have no problem having cooked fruits with a big dollop of xtra thick double cream on at our house.. Im looking forward to picking, cooking and tasting 😋 these fruits now

Damsons are gorgeous! Eat them straight off the tree.

Damson jam is my favourite, quite delicious and the bought versions, if you can even find them, are nowhere near as good as home made.

I second that.  This thread took me back sixty years to my mum's home made Damson jam.  Lovely.

Takes me back too. My Nan used to make damson jam. It tasted delicious but you had to be careful because she didn't always get all the stones out :/.

I once counted them in, then counted them out.
In retrospect I think it's better not knowing how many more there are to fish out -- just keep going knowing the result is worth it!
The best jam -- with purple plum a close second.
    And don't forget damson gin.....
