Sad hydrangeas

I have two Lacecap Hydrangeas which have been badly affected by the recent heatwave.  Both have burnt flowers and shrivelled leaves.  Should I prune them of all affected parts or leave alone and hope they will revive sooner or later.  Thanks for any help.

Give it loads of water to try and preserve the plant,  run your fingers over it and let the dead stuff drop off, and remove it,   whats  gone brown wont recover and I would leave the dead flower head on for this year as they help with frost damage through the winter,  then cut of the dead flowers and take the branches down to the next pair of leaves.

I have a hydrangea in my front garden that regularly gets burnt areas on it, especially when we have a hose pipe ban.  I leave it and use a watering can when possible and it always seems to come back.
  • My hydrangeas have got away really lightly despite the blistering heat and drought. I think the fact they're sheltered under trees has helped them stay cool.  If I was you I'd give them a big drink and keep an eye on them.  First sign of droopy leaves water them again.  I agree the brown bits can't be saved. I'd gently rub them off but otherwise leave them alone to over winter as is.  In early spring I'd prune to two healthy buds and mulch around them (avoiding the stems) to help the plants conserve water a bit more effectively  next year.  This blog may be useful https://bloominglucky.com/care-of-hydrangeas-to-ensure-a-feast-of-flowers/
