quick water butt tap question

I have bought various water butt watering systems that have hozelock type click on connectors but just realized that none of my water butts have the type of tap that you can click/push (a hose) onto. I was just wondering if I need to replace all the taps? Would rather not as the water butts are pretty full. (I have been using water from them judiciously and they clearly have a low evaporation rate.) One of them with rather smelly water. Clearly I don't want to waste any water either.
I have googled but can't find an answer.

    Have you tried pushing the hosepipe directly onto the butt tap without the connector?

    I have two systems. One has a timer, the other has 6mm hoses, so alas that's not going to work with either.
    I know you can get adaptors for kitchen taps for hoses...

    How about a short piece of regular hose pushed onto the water butt tap as Pete mentions and then fit a hozelock female fitting to that and then use a double male connector to fit the watering system to the butt.

    The taps are very narrow but I can look into it. As the taps will be turned on permanently they would need to be drip free.

    I have a feeling that the weight of the timer might pull the whole thing off, but can try it.

    The alternative is to empty the water butts into a spare one I have then refill, after fitting a new tap. That will be fun! Two of them are slim greenhouse ones, at least. 
    I will also try the connector I posted a link to.
    It seems nothing is ever straight forward ;)

    Transfering the water sounds like the best option and then fitting a hozelock style tap.

    I had to drain my butts once, had so many different types of containers in the garden to hold the water lol.

    Yes well, because I can't stick a hose on it I am going to have to fill mutliple watering cans and transfer to a spare water butt. Boo! I'd run them down (it could wait for three weeks - not going on holiday for a bit - but then if there is a hosepipe ban I won't be able to fill them to use them. Grr. I *suppose* I might not really need them in September. I suspec that the tomatoes in the greenhouse will, though. Mind you I also still need to retro fit things in the old style quadgrow which means drilling holes in them with tomatoes in situ.

    Would a jubilee clip hold the hose on well enough until you've used all the water?
