Agapanthus

  • Don't blame you for rescuing it.  I'd have done the same. I'd provide a larger pot. Put in a sunny spot.  I think they can cope with restricted roots. That said, I do have some blissfully happy in big spacious containers. When repotting you may want to divide it up to increase your stock of the beauty. Also, as advised, feed regularly.  You may find this blog on Agapanthus care useful

Another agapanthus question.. I just bought these very tall (nearly 2m) white agapanthus at a discount from a market...so consequently no label. There seem to be a few white tall ones, but if anyone has any ideas, much appreciated. Need to work out if it’s deciduous and if I can plant it in the ground it seems too tall for Such a small pot. Some websites say it needs acidic soil but others say it doesn’t. I think at £5 a pop they are a bargain.
    ...so waiting for the catch!

Fantastic bargain. Pots definitely too small. I can't help with the name - I just do white, blue, dark blue...The leaves look narrow and in my limited experience evergreens tend to be broader leaved, but others may advise differently.

@Posy when do you think I should repot them? The soil seems to be too low, should it cover up the light green part of the leave base do you think?

I would repot them as soon as possible. It's hard to judge the soil level from the photo and they always try to climb out of their pots. Make sure the actual roots have a good covering, but not deep: they seem to like to be near the surface.

I have always thought they like to be fairly constricted but some people assume very little or no compost is ok, which is no good at all.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • Climb out of their pots 😁 good description.
