postal leeks

I have just received some leek plants through the  mail but am unable to get down to my allotment to plant them till Tuesday at the earliest. Can anyone advise how I keep them reasonably healthy till then as instructions are to plant them right away. Not sure whether I should stand them in water or sink in plant pots with damp soil and keep in a dark place? Any advice most welcome as I usually grow my own so have not come across this issue before.

    Put them in a pot of soil for now.

    Many thanks Lyn Once it stops raining I will do just that; love your description of your location; likewise I am gardening up in the (Usually) wet and windy Welsh valleys.

    We have the benefit of living in a beautiful area, with the disadvantage of difficult gardening.  I wouldn’t live anywhere else though.

    Just a comment - sometimes, when I see a special on leeks at Aldi or Lidl, I buy a couple of kilos and heel them in, in a shady spot.  They usually do for a while and are a good standby.
    A good hoeing is worth two waterings.
