Laurel hedge - leaf drop

Hi all, the laurel hedge that I inherited with my house has had a substantial leaf drop this year, mainly from inside the hedge but the outside leaves are beginning to look shriveled and curled in some areas.

I've watered it during the hot weather to try and help it limp along, but I've no experience with laurels. Would a seaweed feed and/or mulch help it recover?

Thanks all!

Leaf drop due to the heat and lack of water has been typical for a lot of evergreen shrubs, and other plants, this year.  It's a way of tolerating the stress of drought by  selectively shedding leaves.  Unless you water very deeply, you won't see much of an effect.  I wouldn't be too worried though as laurel is pretty tough.  As your hedge is an established one rather than newly planted, I would just accept that the plant has resorted to its natural coping strategy at the moment and wait for autumn rains to arrive to aid recovery.  That's what I've decided to do for some of my hedges and evergreen trees and shrubs.  I hope that helps. • Apologies for delay in replying, must be the heat affecting my brain 😁

It does look quite sad in some places, especially as it's warm again. It's always been really thick and now you can see through it which disturbs my husband as he thinks it's his castle wall!
