Bombs

Hi all yet another Newbie here. I'm wanting to create a wildflower bed 8' by 2'. Has anyone tried 'Bee Bombs'. If so how successful were they ?

    They're just seeds wrapped up in clay stuff. I only buy seeds, plenty of clay here.

    Usually full of rubbish… never had one yet which has given much except one or two flowers and loads of weeds, to top it off they never give an even distribution so everything ends up clumped together and bear earth all around. 
    Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.

    I think they are a gimmick, but around for thirty years, at least. The idea was that the mud gives some kind of medium for the seeds to grow in but it gives credance to the (common) idea that the growing of wild plants takes no work and you can throw seeds around and they will always grow happily away. It's a principle that gives a license to print money.

    I'm more or less giving up even on direct sowing of seed. The results are just so dismal or absent.

    I sprinkled a lot of packets of seed in a spare area, and got very few plants. I'm back to raising  plants from seed in seed trays and transplanting.  Too many slugs helping themselves  to my seedlings in the ground.

    I used a generic version - of about 60 bombs, I got precisely nothing.
    I put out 3 packets of poppy seeds this spring with the same results though. 
    Next year - seed trays!
