Acer

The Acer in my garden has shed almost half of its leaves by end of July (2022), which is very unusual as it’s normally full until autumn. It’s an established one around 20 years old, and around 15ft tall. Would the very hot weather last week (July) be the cause, or is it something more sinister. Thanks in advance

It's a long period of very dry weather followed by a heatwave.
I have a similar size acer and I've noticed that some branches (about 10ft+ long) have completely died off - I'm gutted! all we can do is provide lots of water and hope for the best.

Thanks Pete, yep hopefully it’s just the water situation and not more sinister. #prayforacers 😂

I agree several of mine have suffered too even though they were well watered.  When the temperature gets that high the plant metabolism just stops, they can't transpire fast enough so sacrifice some leaves and even some branches. Follow the advice given, the good news is we will get a nice crop of new leaves next spring.
