Removing the heads will result in jets of water from the end fittings. Great when you want to make sure there's no blockage but not otherwise. I can't say I've noticed massive difference in output from the same dripper type. Also, some are adjustable. The bigger problem potentially is that Hozelock have stopped making them.

Not for me. Just a dribble
In which case you either don't have the tap turned on high enough or there is a partial blockage either in the hose or the heads. I've got nearly 40 drippers and sprinklers on mine and I get a jet of water if I remove a head from the 4mm pipe.
