Trailing clematis for chimney pot

Hi I've picked up a wonderfully tall chimney pot and was thinking about having a trailing clematis any recommendations?

It'll be in semi shade

Good morning Dave. I grow a Clematis montana in mine. Its been in the chimney pot for several years now and is always stunning in the Spring. It faces east so is shaded mornings but gets any sun in the afternoon. Last year some dunnocks nested in it.

What a great idea. Clematis 'Alionushka' might work nicely, it is a gorgeous clematis, non clinging, not too big.

Petit Faucon would be nice.  The seed heads are particularly good too.

I think you need one that will not swamp your pot and hide it's form.

Jan Fopma is a small clematis with lightly perfumed bell flowers.   It would need a little support framework to help it sit up and then trail down.  https://clematisontheweb.org/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=3024

Integrifolia allba is another with white, scented flowers and has sturdier stems so would be a good form for your pot - https://clematisontheweb.org/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=221

Rosea is a pink form of the alba - https://clematisontheweb.org/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=230

I have grown the two later in a previous garden as free standing herbaceous perennials.   I have Jan Fopma here, recovering in a pot after being rescued form drought in a border.

Pixie is a good one for that situation, the flowers resemble "old man's beard" and it trails down. Will grow happily in shade.
