Echinacea

Evening,

I purchased my first ever Echinacea today but a bit unsure if they’re in a sunny enough spot - they’ll get direct sun between 11am - 4/5pm. Is that likely to be enough for them to do well or should I replant them elsewhere?

 Thanks.

That will be fine I think.

I had a rudbeckia Goldstrum in a corner of my old garden that probably didn't get as much sun as that and it was more than happy (standard wonky forum photo for no apparent reason)-

It should be fine, though echinaceas do tend to grow toward the light and can take full, blazing sun, so they are great for a sunny, south-facing border. They hate sitting in cold, wet winter conditions so good drainage is important.

Echinaceas need more sun than something like Rudbeckia goldsturm, which grows happily in a little shade.
I would echo @Nollie comment re winter wet.

  • So should I move to a more sunnier location?

They should be ok where they are , with that amount of sunlight they should get enough for their needs

If you have a suitable, sunnier location I probably would. As well as full sun I do have some in an east-facing spot, which gets less, they grow perfectly well, but they do lean forward/southwards. They are propped up by gaura in front tho, so it works.

If you think about where they come from, the American prairies, you will appreciate that they are used to full sun.
