Rose bush

Good morning. My former colleagues bought me a rose bush called Happy Retirement last year when I retired. It's been in the garden since then and although it flowered this year, it doesn't seem to have grown in height at all. It looks healthy enough and I watered it  when we had that heatwave. The information card that came with it states that it will grow to be 3 feet tall.  Are roses slow growing ??? Thanks

    Congratulations on your retirement :)
Often when plants are put in the ground the first thing they do is concentrate on growing a strong root system.
Once the root system is good and strong then they can focus on growing above ground.

A handful of blood, fish and bone (or rose fertilizer) in the spring and a layer of mulch will support it for next year.
If it's a repeat flowering rose, then another handful in mid-late June will provide nutrients for more flowers.

Thank you that's really helpful. I will buy some of the fertilizer because I'm also thinking about getting another rose bush and I can feed them at the same time

It's a bit late for rose fertilizer now as it would encourage new growth that may well get damaged during winter frosts.
You could use Tomato feed (every 10 days) which will just encourage more flowers.

Best time for rose feed is late Feb/March and, if it's repeat flowering feed again in June but no later than the end of June - then any new growth will have hardened off before winter.
