Creating new beds in a heatwave? Advice please

  • Hope you can see those photos OK. The back corner is very shady. The rest of the bed and the bed nearest the house are very sunny. The right hand bend that juts into the square of paving is semi-shade (sunny in the morning).
    Thank you again.

    I like that wall  :)

I think the climbers should be happy along there, are you planning to use vine eyes and wire, or fix trellis to it ?
Bear in mind that you'll need to plant them around a foot out from the wall to allow for the "rain shadow" and the footings taking up moisture as well.
Hope this does for a start, l'm sure others can advise re the rest, but l think you may have possibly have too many plants for the space available. An age old gardening problem.

Sorry, l am slightly distracted, but l'm looking forward to seeing more photos when it's all planted up later in the year :)

  • Thanks, AnniD - glad you like the wall! Very good point re the rain shadow and footings. As supports, I was going to use vine eyes...and possibly an old wrought iron garden gate if I can fix it to the wall without it falling on my head. Will try to scale back my over-ambitious plans. Will definitely post some pics in the spring, hopefully with some happy looking plants. Thank you again - it's very kind of you to give so much advice and encouragement.
