Will this work ???

hello, i've got many pots containing miniature Spring flowering bulbs and have recently had to untangle 3 of them as they were full of weeds. I've replaced the old compost and put them in to slightly bigger pots and was wondering whether it would be a good idea to cover the top of the pot with membrane and small pebbles to try to prevent weeds again. I realise that there will always be weeds but I'm trying to make my life easier. I've aleady done this on my very large pots that contain shrubs and larger bulbs but i'm not sure if the very small bulbs will manage to get through the membrane/pebbles ?? thanks

    They won't get through membrane.
You can certainly put a layer of gravel on the pots, but the main thing to do is to check them every now and again and take out anything that's seeded in.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Agree with @Fairygirl -  forget the membrane.  A layer of gravel/grit should make it easier to spot and pull out any intruders at an early stage.

Thank you. I didn't think that the bulbs would penetrate the membrane but thought I'd ask anyway. I'll just put a light layer of small pebbles on the pots and keep an eye out for weeds.
