Bay leaves very pale

I've got a bay tree in the garden that's been doing well for a year or so, but the new leaves that are coming through are flimsy and much lighter in colour than you'd expect. Is that normal? Will they change? Any help/advice for a fairly new gardener greatly appreciated!

    Here's one I have in a pot that's about to be pruned.
    The new foliage is pale and thin - that's normal.
    If yours is much different can you post a pic?

    That looks perfectly normal for healthy young bay leaves. They’ll darken and toughen up with age.

    Yes, perfectly fine.
    The leaves right at the top look like they are very curled up?
    There may be a bay sucker inside the curled leaf - or it may be my eyesight :)

    New growth of bay leaves when crushed is one of the best smells in the world.

    Thanks everyone. I've only had a garden of my own for a year so I'm totally clueless but absolutely loving learning as I go. Great new hobby!
