Black Caterpillar Invasion

Can anyone help?  These little black caterpillars have decimated three trees (see leaf fall) have spread into veg beds, strawberries and raspberries. Any ideas/help on how to get rid of them and what they actually are? Many thanks

    I have five silver birch situated 15 metres away and they’re not affected as yet…

    One of the Processionary moths maybe?

    What sort of trees have they decimated?

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
