Clematis "Star of India" in a pot -- too small?

ManderMander Posts: 349
I've got this Clematis in a pot that I've had for a couple of years. It grows and puts out one or two flowers but it's clearly not thriving. Can it be successful in a pot? Does it just need a bigger one?

It certainly needs all the rubbish removing from the top of the soil.
Did you give it a good mulch in Spring and are you feeding and watering it regularly??

Is it getting enough light ? Needs some sunshine ,feeding and new weed free compost .Maybe a slightly bigger pot but attend to first things first.

I quite like the effect of the sedum growing on top but I need to weed out the other stuff. I'm a bad plant parent and never remember to feed them. Would standard rose or tomato type feed do? I will definitely repot it.
