Plant for a shady wall?

The back of our house faces North and the back wall is shaded pretty much all day, mid summer it may get 1-2 hours sun a day as the house shades it.
Is there a plant we can get that will grow in tubs and maybe to 6' tall or so but only 2' wide - each side of the patio doors is a brick column 2' wide and that side of the small garden badly needs brightening up, even better if it had some scent to it as well
Must be ok in something like a 18" to 22" tub as the floor is block-paved all over, I can add trellis if needed.
Any ideas?

You'd need the biggest pot you can get in the space and good loam based compost such as John Innes no 3 mixed with about 25% MPC for moisture retention. You'll need to put it on pot feet to allow drainage; especially in winter, and keep it regularly fed and watered as composts only have nutrients for 90 days max.
