Amsonia gone rogue!

I used to have a lovely clump of Amsonia Tabernaemontana. It grew well for about 6-7 years, but last year started to grow extremely long stems which started to root all around the border. It has spread so much this year that I will have to dig it all out and start with a new plant. Has anyone hear of it going rogue?
