Good to leave lots of bowls of water around the garden for wildlife

A lizard just came over while the kids were in the paddling pool. I'm not sure if it could smell the water or just wanted a go on the slide. Since one of the little cherubs just did an impression of a little cherub fountain I wouldn't recommend it drinks the water anymore :#
Aren't children and pets an everlasting delight.😁

    Poor doggo, Nollie.

This thread is a good reminder. There are bowls dotted around but the dog has always liked to round them up since puppyhood.

Here is a photo of one of my rose pots with the terracotta pot inside which keeps the rose roots cool while serving as a bath/drink for blackbirds and pigeons.

I've left saucers of water out too. I can see one from the kitchen window. A robin has been using it. I saw the red squirrel too, haven't seen it for a while.

@Nollie why do you have so many wasps around? Isn't that a bit unusual?

@fire - we have a mini plague of wasps here (mid Suffolk). Several warning emails on our village e-jungle-drums of many wasp nest locations along the many heavily used local footpaths.

I definitely have a wasps' nest in a raised bed and I think there's another in the loft.

They are a bit of a hazard around the large seed watering tray filled with water for various creatures to use.

... and one has just landed in my beer - 'scuse me while I get a spoon to fish him out..

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

    Interesting.

Flat trays are probably most stable if you have larger critters using them. They don't up-end so easily.

The wasps are always a bit of a menace here @Topbird and Fire, but they do seem to be more numerous this year and are building nests everywhere. Gasping for any water they can get like any other creature I guess, but apart from the dog trying to stick his nose in ‘their’ water bowl they seem to be too dozy in the heat to bother stinging anything that moves.

We've got a fox that likes to pee in the water bowls. It'll pause, do a little squat and just walk casually on. It's done it on the hedgehogs food bowl as well, not that the hogs have got the best of hygiene either.

I would guess that it is scent marking.
